Satellite leads in Slovakia

DTH remains the most popular way of receiving pay-TV services in Slovakia.

Quoting data obtained from providers, the Office for the Regulation of Electronic Communications and Postal Services (RÚ) says that as of the end of 2020 there were a total of 866,000 DTH subscribers, followed by 543,000 IPTV and 355,000 cable, of which 213,000 were digital.

Other connections were via microwave (MMDS or MVDS) or pay-DTT.

All told, there were a total of 194 providers of pay-TV services, with the five largest being Canal+ Luxembourg (Skylink), Slovak Telekom, Digi Slovakia, UPC Broadband Slovakia and Orange Slovensko.

DVB-S were provided by eight companies, with the three largest being Canal+ Luxembourg, Digi Slovakia and Slovak Telekom, while the three largest of the 86 providing IPTV services were Slovak Telekom, Orange Slovensko and Antik Telecom.

The three largest of the 109 cable operators were UPC Broadband Slovakia, Digi Slovakia and Slovanet.
