Vodafone is now offering the GigaTV Cable Box 2 as the standard TV reception device across its whole footprint in Germany, replacing Liberty Global’s Horizon box in the three federal states previously served by Unitymedia.

The GigaTV Cable Box 2 is required for accessing the newly structured and expanded international TV line-up on the nationwide Vodafone cable network. In the electronic programme guide, the box does not distinguish between channels distributed in cable TV standard DVB-C and channels reaching TV screens via internet (IP).

Vodafone Deutschland uses the hybrid solution for its range of international channels, which are delivered to cable customers via IP from now on, opening up more space on cable for broadband internet access.

At the same time, Vodafone Deutschland is unifying its nationwide channel portfolio and frequency spectrum. The new nationwide line-up of foreign language TV channels comprises 17 packages with 100 channels, 23 of which are in HD quality. It also includes seven international radio stations.

Following the acquisition of Unitymedia, Vodafone confirmed in July 2019 that Liberty Global’s Horizon box would be replaced by its own GigaTV product.
