complaints about access to digital channels on some televisions.Consumers with older, non-compatible televisions that are not connected to the operator's box are affected.Find out what you can do.NOS will proceed with the total discontinuation of analogue channels. If your TV is connected to an operator set-top box, you don't need to worry. The measure only affects consumers with older televisions that are not connected to an operator set-top box, televisions without an integrated digital tuner or without a DTT tuner with DVB-C.However, the situation is not unique to NOS.In Portugal, NOS was the first telecommunications operator to reduce the number of analogue channels, in October 2017, giving customers with televisions without an integrated digital tuner or without a box the option of paying one more euro per month for a decoder. Now, the operator is informing customers that it will completely discontinue analogue channels, later this year, a decision that had already been taken by NOWO.“The NOS channel grid will no longer be provided through an analogue signal, and will be made only in a digital signal. This will allow you to access more than 100 channels, with a selection of channels in HD image quality. Thus, televisions without a box that cannot tune in all the channels and do not have a decoder no longer have access to the NOS channel grid”, communicates the operator.MEO and Vodafone had also communicated changes. The first announced in June 2020 that some channels would no longer be part of the list of available analogue channels. To continue watching these channels, consumers would have to have a MEO box, a DVB-T compatible TV or a DTT decoder.Vodafone initiated similar changes earlier this year. Most TVs sold after 2010 already include a DVB-T/C MPEG4 tuner, necessary to access the DTT signal since its implementation. Therefore, they are compatible with the digital format television channel packages that operators provide, in the case of services based on optical fiber, through the RF distribution of homes (for access to televisions without the operator's box).Non-compatible televisions will be all CRTs (the old bulky cathode ray tube televisions) or most plasma and LCD models released before 2010. Thus, the discontinuation of analogue signal channels will affect, above all, the most antiques, which, in many cases, are used in secondary rooms in the house, such as the kitchen or bedrooms. In most cases, the first television in the home, used in the family's living room, must be compatible with digital channels. If you have a DTT tuner, you can try connecting it to your old TV (the antenna cable must be connected to this tuner). Some of these tuners also have DVB-C.To confirm that your boxless TV is able to tune into digital channels, go to the equipment's menu and choose the option that allows you to tune into channels, for example, "Channel tuning" or "Channel search".You must choose the option "Digital channels" or "DVB-C channels".If your TV is capable of tuning into digital channels, it should automatically tune to the operator's new digital channel grid.If you cannot tune in channels, your TV is not compatible. In this case, the solution is to get a DTT tuner with DVB-C, an additional operator decoder box (box) or exchange for a newer TV.Although the availability of channels is always dependent on the consumer having the necessary equipment for this purpose, DECO PROTESTE does not consider it fair that consumers are subject to unilateral changes to the conditions previously contracted, such as the need to pay for an additional decoder (or more , depending on the number of televisions that cannot decode the digital channels) to have access to certain channels, without being able to terminate the contract without penalty. The first thing to do is check that the TV you want to access is compatible with the standard used by the operator for digital channels. In the case of NOS and NOWO, this is the DVB-C standard. In the case of MEO and Vodafone, the DVB-T standard. If it is not compatible, the next step is to check if you have a DTT box that you can use and that allows you to decode the signal. If not, try to negotiate the decoder monthly fee offered by the operator. If all these options fail, file a complaint and, if that is your intention, request the termination of the contract free of charge due to a unilateral change in the characteristics of the service to which an unforeseen cost increase for the customer is associated. You must indicate that you cannot access digital channels without incurring this additional cost, either by renting or purchasing a decoder, or by having to purchase new televisions. If you are denied the possibility of termination free of charge, start a mediation process through our services or through the consumer dispute arbitration centers.Contracts must indicate access to a set of channels, content and essential functionalities of the service and whose change or alteration gives the right to termination without any penalty or charge for the consumer. In these cases, there must be an understanding between the operator and the consumer, namely through the negotiation of free access to the decoder or other compensation for the loss of access to channels on older televisions. It is natural, desirable and even mandatory that there are more and more digital channels and that analogue ends up becoming obsolete over time, but this transition cannot be made by charging the consumer with yet another cost and creating a new monthly fee for yet another device. decoder at home, a device that also represents an additional cost of energy consumption.DECO PROTESTE's independence is guaranteed by the economic sustainability of its activity.Keeping this professional structure working to bring you a quality service requires a vast specialized team.Register to discover all the benefits, without commitment.Subscribe anytime. The content of this article may be reproduced for non-commercial purposes with the express consent of DECO PROTESTE, with an indication of the source and a link to this page.See Terms and Conditions.Call to the national fixed network Working days, between 9 am and 6 pmYou can save articles to read later or follow your favorite topics. You can save articles to read later or follow your favorite topics.
