Poland’s TVN Discovery is testing its streaming service Player on an experimental DVB-T2/HEVC multiplex.

According to Wirtualne Media, it is being trialled alongside the proprietary channels TVN HD, TVN7 HD, TTV HD and Metro HD in a number of cities including Bydgoszcz, Gdansk, Katowice, Lodz and the capital, Warsaw.

It adds that TVN Discovery is now planning to launch a version of Player adapted for HbbTV, working in partnership with Samsung.

The latter has confirmed that negotiations between the two parties are still ongoing. Player’s recommendation layer has been operating on HbbTV since March 2020 and is used by 500,000 households a week.
